What a wonderful long weekend that was.
A confident and proud nation paying tribute to its monarch who over the past seven decades has overseen far-reaching changes than anyone could have imagined.
From Seamus the Irish wolfhound leading Trooping the Color, to Prince Louis’ antics during the flyby, to the Queen’s brilliant comic timing with Paddington and her Gold State Coach hologram, the whole show was a triumph.
Her latest surprise appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace yesterday was another carefully choreographed piece of symbolism that gave a clear indication of her successor.
Joined only by Charles and Camilla, William and Kate and future King Prince George and siblings, Her Majesty seemed determined to secure the family’s future.
But for now, as the Archbishop of York memorably put it, she remains in the saddle.
How grateful we are for that, and how grateful that this country has been served with such dignity and duty over the past 70 years.
Truly happy and glorious.
