West Ham confirm the £10.5million transfer of Alphonse Areola on a five-year deal from PSG after a successful loan

WEST HAM have completed the signing of Alphonse Areola for £10.5million on a five-year deal.

The France goalkeeper arrives from Paris Saint-Germain after being loaned to the Hammers last season.

SunSport reported on Friday that the 29-year-old’s move would be confirmed earlier this week as David Moyes and his team would arrive in Scotland for pre-season on Monday.

And Areola will now join them as a permanent West Ham player until 2027, with the option of an extra year.

He said: “I’m feeling good, I’m feeling great, I’m happy to sign and happy to stay here and I can’t wait to start training and get the job done.

“The most important thing is that I felt the love of the fans last season. Something I really care about is feeling loved.

“The vibe last season was great so I just wanted to do whatever it took to stay here. I feel good.

“When I sign for a club I want to feel like it’s like my second family.”

Boss Moyes added: “Alphonse made a huge contribution to the club last season. His performances underscored why we see him as a top goalkeeper.

“He brings proven quality and experience at the highest level, both nationally and internationally.”

It is the second signing of the summer for Moyes this window after he also signed Rennes centre-back Nayef Aguerd for £30million.

Areola had been linked with other Premier League sides after his impressive campaign at the London Stadium, with Newcastle previously keen.

However, West Ham had a clear run in confirming the deal after Toon signed Burnley’s Nick Pope.

Areola played 18 games last season, including 11 in the Europa League when West Ham reached the semi-finals, keeping five clean sheets and conceding just eight goals.

But Areola is now expected to battle for first place in the Prem with Polish veteran Lukasz Fabianski, 37.

West Ham remain active in the transfer window and are still looking for a striker to rival Michail Antonio.

Chelsea’s Armando Broja is their number one target.

The Albanian centre-forward, 20, scored six goals on loan to Southampton last year and West Ham are preparing a £30m bid.

However, Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is keen to see Broja in pre-season training before making a decision about his future.

West Ham have also approached Villarreal in a bid to lure former Bournemouth winger Arnaut Danjuma, 25, back to England in a £30m deal.
