Weatherman died “surrounded by his family and the animals he loved,” the broadcaster said

Retired Bay Area weatherman Joel Bartlett has died at the age of 81, his former news station announced.

Bartlett spent three decades as the weatherman for ABC7 in the bay area.

In a tribute on its website, the broadcaster wrote: “Joel Bartlett died Thursday night at his home in Santa Rosa.

“He was surrounded by his family and the animals he loved.”

Before Bartlett joined the station’s news team, he was in the Air Force in the 1960s.

During this time he became a meteorologist, ABC7 called.

He worked for 14 years at KPIX, CBS News’ news channel in San Francisco.

He then worked for ABC7 in the Bay Area and San Francisco for 17 years, according to the broadcaster. Bartlett retired in 2006.

During his retirement, Bartlett spent time working for charities in the North Bay Area.

Former Bartlett colleagues and other reporters took to social media to express their thoughts about the former meteorologist.

His replacement as ABC7 weatherman, Mike Nicco, wrote: “We did our best to honor him. What is your favorite Joel Bartlett moment? We miss you Joel.”
