NBC branch WESH-TV reported multiple tornado warnings Tuesday night and warned residents to prepare for heavy hail on Wednesday.

“There are about 1,000 tornadoes each year in the U.S. killing an average of 80 people and injuring 1,500,” WESH reports.

“Being informed and prepared before a tornado hits can make the difference between life and death.”

The National Weather Service noted the difference between a tornado warning watch and a tornado warning.

Vigilance means possible tornadoes in and near the area, and residents nearby should prepare by reviewing their emergency plans and checking supplies.

The warning means it’s time to act and a tornado has been seen or indicated by weather radar, so residents are advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a fortified building and avoid Windows.

Florida Residents are also provided with safety tips regarding possible tornadoes, including updates on the status of the situation, preparing families in advance, and having an emergency communication plan.

WESH also recommends that residents know what to watch out for during tornadoes, including dark and blue skies, heavy hail, low-level dark clouds or a loud roar similar to the sound of a freight train.

For those not in a permanent building, possible alternatives are buckling in the vehicle, shielding in a stationary vehicle, or lying in an area lower than the road surface.

It’s important to remember not to go under an overpass or overpass and never try to outrun a tornado in an urban or crowded area.

The National Weather Service issued severe thunderstorm warnings Wednesday for parts of Florida such as Volusia, Brevard and Osceola counties.

Meteorologists warn residents to drive safely as hailstorms are expected towards the Florida Turnpike.

The National Weather Service has warned of “life-threatening” flash floods in parts of Birmingham, Alabama led to several water rescues.

ABC branch WBMA reported that first responders were called to more than 20 underwater rescues Wednesday afternoon, eight of which were actual rescues.
