We tried Walmart’s new scan-and-go — some say it involves “being accused of stealing” and they’d rather wait in line

Walmart’s scan-and-go feature is extremely convenient and makes the checkout process a breeze. However, some people say it’s “suspected theft” and prefer to wait in line.

Instead of waiting in a long and often tedious line, the Walmart app offers a feature for buyers who have a Walmart+ membership.

Members can take advantage of the Scan and Go feature, a members-only feature that makes checkout easier than ever.

Scan-and-go turns your phone into your own mobile self-checkout station.

You can scan your items on the go instead of scanning them all at once at the end of your shopping spree.

If you bring your reusable shopping bags, you can have all your items scanned and bagged before you checkout.

A TikTok from Danny Ho (@I’m Danny Ho) introduced the function.

With a shopping cart full of items, Danny and his wife were able to scan all of the items without having to be online.

“Be sure to scan the QR code at the self-checkout lane,” read the text on the screen.

However, not everyone felt the need to use this feature, saying they’d rather wait in line instead.

“NO! They will charge you with shoplifting!!” one person wrote.

“Until they treat you like you’re stealing because the employee doesn’t know such a thing exists,” another person wrote.

“Retail theft is increasing rapidly,” wrote a third person. Person.

A fourth person wrote, “That must be in the nicer part of town where they don’t lock up the detergent.”

HOW TO USE SCAN AND GO

To get started with the function, you need a few things.

First, you’ll need a Walmart+ membership—remember, this feature is members-only.

You will also need a mobile device with a camera. Use it to scan the barcodes of the products you want to buy.

The device requires the Walmart app with location access enabled and a stable internet connection.

Your credit or debit card must be linked to your account in order to pay through the app.

After that you can use it.

Just start scanning the items and then click View Cart to make sure everything is correct.

You can then click the blue Proceed to Checkout button and go to a self-checkout kiosk.
