Pakistan captain Babar Azam has named his team’s stunning win over India in the T20 World Cup 2021 as one of his most cherished moments of the past year. Pakistan beat their arch-rivals in a pivotal encounter to claim their first win over India in World Cup history.
Talking about the same on Pakistan Cricket’s official YouTube channel, the star smasher revealed how their team is determined to improve their poor performance against India on the big stage. Azam also highlighted how Pakistan received an extraordinary response from supporters to their crucial victory.
Babar Azam says:
“We don’t want to think about what happened in the past. The way we started and the way we ended, there was a different buzz. The reaction from the fans after their first World Cup win last year. India is huge. complete team effort. We have the confidence to change our record against them.”
The two ticketing nations locked horns at the Dubai International Stadium on October 24. After being asked to hit the first ball on the surface, India managed to post a total below the score of 151. Shaheen Shah Afridi gave his team a great start by sending openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul packing early in the clash.
Pakistan’s openers mocked India’s score as they chased goal in the 18th round. Mohammad Rizwan is the top scorer with an unbeaten score of 79 matches. Babar Azam also contributed with a vital 68 runs to help his team score a clear win.

The 27-year-old added that Pakistan’s semi-final loss to Australia in the T20 World Cup 2021 was ‘heartbreaking’. He pointed out that while they played exceptionally well in Super 12 games, they didn’t push the boundaries in the all-important knockout.
Azam admitted that the team made a lot of mistakes against the Aussies, which ultimately cost them a spot in the finals. However, he hopes that they will learn from their experience and improve their performance in the future.
“The semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2021 was one of the most heartbreaking moments of the year. We dominated the first half. Unfortunately, we failed in the crucial encounter against Australia. We made a mistake. some mistakes as a team and it’s important to learn from them.”
Pakistan, who went undefeated in the semi-final against Australia, had a total of 176 points at the Dubai International Stadium. Australia won the tight contest for a place in the final, thanks to a late Mathew Wade strike.
