We bought a more than 100-year-old home without seeing it – it’s going to be a lot of work but we live mortgage-free

A COUPLE have bought a 100-year-old house without seeing it first and, although the property is definitely a redevelopment project, they will live in it without a mortgage.

In May 2021, the couple purchased an abandoned house in Nova Scotia, Canada.

“We bought this house sight unseen,” Elysia said.

The couple was looking for a home that didn’t have to pay a mortgage while also having plenty of land.

The house was dilapidated and in desperate need of renovation, but the couple is known for undertaking similar projects.

“It’s been an incredible journey,” said Philip.

After looking at several different properties, the couple settled on an 1899 home.

“We moved through four provinces from Ontario to Nova Scotia,” Elysia said.

“We have big plans to design and restore this old house that has been abandoned by several previous owners.”

The couple said they plan to retain the home’s original charm and character while updating it for a modern era.

Everything is done in-house, they said.

“We were told this was once an old farmhouse with a barn on the property,” Elysia said.

“Purchasing land gives us all the space we need to grow and expand our journey into the home ownership, renovation and home improvement industries.”

Elysia and Philip also took a tour of the house, showing off the grand staircase and living room with fireplace.

“I can’t wait to see everything finished! It has so much character and will be beautiful! You are so optimistic and adventurous!” one person wrote in the comments.

“If anyone can give this house the love it deserves, it’s you!” another person wrote.

“I can’t wait to see what you design.”
