A YOUNG girl was injured when a chimpanzee attacked her with a water bottle at a zoo.

The shocking video, taken at China’s Nanning Zoo, shows the male chimpanzee jumping up and down angrily before going to fetch something.

The chimp turns to grab a water bottle that was in its habitat before turning back to the viewing platform.

Suddenly, the primate jumps to gain momentum before throwing the partially full water bottle full force at the filming girl.

The video then ends abruptly when you hear the force of the water bottle hitting the zoo visitor.

Her phone falls to the ground before she grabs it, holding her head where it was hit.

The girl’s age is unknown, but she was visiting the zoo with her mother when the animal became restless.

Nanning Zoo told local media that they are investigating the case and could not comment on what happened.

Just a few weeks ago, another primate at the zoo threw mud and dirt at a female as she walked around his enclosure.

The woman told local media the primate followed her throughout the enclosure, even as she hid from it.

As of now, it’s unclear if the latest incident involved the same monkey, but the zoo is investigating.

Nanning Zoo has come under fire in recent years, including in 2019 when they taped a basket to a turtle’s shell.

The basket, complete with a mini Chinese flag, was pasted onto the helpless animal for tourists to “throw in lucky coins”.

The poor African Spurred Tortoise is listed as Vulnerable by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.

According to local media, a zoo employee reacted angrily to the viral photo on Weibo.

She said: “We had an orangutan that died and nobody took care of it. Now everyone’s judging us for putting a basket on a turtle’s shell!”

Keith Guo, spokesman for PETA Asia, told AsiaWire, “Turtles belong in the wild, they are not a tool for humans to make money.

“The zoo should listen to the Chinese public’s outcry and send the turtle to a sanctuary.
