Watch the militant climate activist tape himself to the talk show booth – before security forces lift him away and tip him to the ground

THIS is the moment an eco-activist taped himself to a table during a live TV debate – forcing security to come in and warn him.

Jelle de Graaf, who is linked to Extinction Rebellion, had been invited to speak on the RTL 4 show Jinek about the climate activists clinging to Vermeer’s painting Girl with a Pearl Earring in The Hague.

During the discussion, he suddenly jumped onto the table, smeared glue on his hands, and then slammed them down on the tabletop.

He then began a speech on the climate, talking about the hundreds of thousands of Pakistanis displaced by widespread flooding.

Then the show’s security appeared and approached the table to remove Mr de Graaf.

They toppled the table as the activist asked to continue filming rather than forgo a commercial break, fearing for his safety.

Staff then picked up the tabletop and carried the protester to the side of the studio.

They put one side of the table on the floor and tip it over, causing Mr de Graaf to break loose and fall to one side.

He continued to protest with security personnel before they escorted the set.

Mr. de Graaf is a self-proclaimed “intersectional activist, campaigner and strategic advisor”.

He helped organize Extinction Rebellion’s week of action that took place last year and is also involved with various grassroots organizations.

Environmentalists targeted the world-famous painting just a day ago in their latest protest.

Three protesters were arrested at the Mauritshuis Museum in The Hague and luckily the artwork remained undamaged after the protest.

Onlookers at the museum were unfazed by the action, and visitors tried to drown out the “stupid” demonstration by telling the activists to “shut up” during a speech about the need to protect the environment.

PAINTING PROTEST

Footage released online shows a protester who appears to be sticking his head to the glass covering the painting.

His accomplice then throws a can of chopped tomatoes over his head.

The couple were then taken away in handcuffs by police along with a third member of the group.

“Around 2 p.m. (1200 GMT), two people taped themselves to the Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer,” the Mauritshuis said in a statement.

THREE ARRESTS

“One person taped their head to the painting behind glass, and the other person taped their hand to the green wall next to the painting. A third person threw an unknown substance at the painting.”

The museum added: “We immediately inspected the painting, which was carried out by our restorers. Luckily the painting…wasn’t damaged.”

“Art is defenseless and trying to damage it for whatever reason we condemn in the strongest possible terms,” the Mauritshuis added.

Dutch police said in a statement they had arrested three Belgian men in their 40s for damaging public property and were conducting a forensic investigation. You have been questioned.

Dutch Junior Minister for Culture Gunay Uslu said: “Everyone has the right to say something. But please: leave our common heritage alone. Attacking defenseless artworks is not the way to go.”
