Aurelien Tchouameni opened the scoring early in the first half.
Kane equalized from the penalty spot but Olivier Giroud later restored the French lead with a skillful header.
But six minutes from time England had a chance to equalise, again from the penalty spot.
But this time, Kane botched his effort and sent his shot over the bar.
While other England team-mates held their heads in their hands and got back into shape, Bellingham sprinted to comfort his captain.
One fan said: “Bellingham is the one who comforts Kane after the missed penalty. Bellingham to a bark of command in the last few seconds.
“This boy will be captain of England one day. He’s already a leader.”
Another said: “Loved Bellingham as he ran straight to Kane after missing. What an absolute baller.”

England missed the semi-final against Morocco.
They became the FIRST African country to reach the last four of the World Cup after beating Portugal 1-0.
Morocco still has to concede against an opposing player.
The only goal counted against them came from one of their own, Nayef Aguerd.
Morocco plays France next Wednesday and the winner of this duel meets either Croatia or Argentina.
