And Palace made them pay in the 32nd minute when Eberechi Eze sent Wilfried Zaha on the break and completed the Eagles talisman superbly to give the visitors a shock lead.

After the break, things went from bad to worse for Liverpool.

Darwin Nunez’s senseless headbutt on Joachim Andersen ensured the Uruguayan received a straight red on his home debut.

But just as the game seemed to be slipping away from Liverpool, Diaz stepped forward to create a magic moment.

The Colombian striker intervened from the left, snaking past five Palace shirts before putting a spectacular shot past Vicente Guaita.

It was a stunning strike that would help Liverpool win.

Diaz’s passionate cheering got the crowd excited as the Merseyside team felt a first win of the campaign.

However, Patrick Vieira’s side stood firm and withstood late pressure to leave Anfield with an impressive point.

It means Liverpool have just two draws to start their season after a 2-2 draw with Fulham in the opening weekend.

They are already four points adrift of reigning champions Manchester City when they thrashed Bournemouth 4-0 on Saturday to maintain their perfect start.

Next up for Klopp’s side is a trip to Old Trafford on Monday to take on rivals Manchester United.

Liverpool will look to inflict a third straight defeat on Erik ten Hag’s side, who are currently bottom of the Premier League after defeats by Brighton and Brentford.
