RORY MCILROY agonizingly missed a putt by MILLIMETERS to ensure Shane Lowry won the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
And the Irishman celebrated his first win since 2019 in exuberant fashion.
An eagle on the 18th for McIlroy would have seen him join Lowry at -17 and force a playoff.
But the four-time major winner watched in horror as his putt from over 20 yards missed the hole by just millimeters.
Lowry watched anxiously from the clubhouse as the ball made its way to the hole.
Somehow it didn’t fall, which caused Lowry to party like crazy.
He bizarrely stuck out his tongue and twisted it around while squinting.
While Lowry celebrated wildly after the missed putt, McIlroy looked devastated.
And Lowry rubbed salt in McIlroy’s wounds as he joked with him afterwards: “You’ve won enough anyway!”
Jon Rahm finished third after a superb final round of 62.
Lowry revealed the win at Wentworth meant more to him than LIV Golf Rebels Talor Gooch and Patrick Reed finished fourth and T5s respectively.
He declared “this is one for the good guys” after securing his first win since the 2019 Open.
Lowry revealed: “I made no secret of how I felt about the whole thing and wanted to win the tournament for myself and for those who stayed loyal and gave everything for the tour.
“That’s one for the good guys.”
