After 30-year-old Mane scored the crucial penalty in the Africa Cup of Nations final in February, Senegal paraded the trophy across the country.

The last stop was Bambaly, Mane’s birthplace, and he arranged a football game on the pitch where it all started for him.

He’s even drafted former Blackburn and Liverpool star El Hadj Diouf, as well as Newcastle ace Papiss Cisse, as well as current national team-mates Mbaye Diagne and Desire Segbe.

Images from Senegalese broadcaster wiwsport show that a sizeable crowd turned out to see the legends in action at Manes’ old pitch.

The only problem was that it rained cats and dogs throughout the game, covering the pitch with mud.

Mane even nearly slipped in the mud once when the ball was stolen from him.

Mane wrote on his Instagram account: “Back to the source with a gala match at Bambaly Square where it all started!!!

“A big thank you to my brothers @papissdembacisse @mbayediagne909 @desire.segbeand without forgetting forever my idol saint @elhadji_diouf11_officiel.”

Back in 2018, Mane donated £200,000 to build a school in the city in the south of the country.

He then donated £41,000 in 2020 to help fight the coronavirus in his home country at the start of the pandemic.

Earlier this year it was announced that Mane would be naming a stadium in Senegal after him following his Afcon exploits.

The future Stade Sadio Mane is currently under construction and is scheduled to open next year.

But until then, Mane should be a Bayern Munich player.

The striker has reportedly reached a “full oral agreement” to join Bayern Munich this summer.

All that’s left is Liverpool and the German side to pay a transfer fee, with the Reds expected to ask around £42million to part ways with Mane.
