In a fiery speech, Kim’s younger brother Kim Yo Jang accused South Korea of spreading the coronavirus to the north and threatened its southern neighbor with “eradication”.

At a meeting of health workers and scientists in the North Korean capital of Pyongyang, Kim and his sister declared a “radiant victory” in his country’s fight against Covid-19 and called for preventive measures to be eased.

He also claimed the official national Covid death toll of just 74 was an “unprecedented miracle in the history of the world health community,” according to state media.

The country has yet to officially administer a single Covid shot – making its claims all the more unlikely.

Before Kim spoke, his powerful sister delivered a thunderous speech, blaming propaganda leaflets flown across the border in balloons from South Korea for the Covid outbreak in their country.

She hinted for the first time that her brother had contracted the virus and said he was among tens of millions of North Koreans who had fallen ill.

“Although he was seriously ill with a high fever, in the face of the anti-epidemic war, he could not lie down for a moment and think about the people he had to take care of to the end,” she said.

Her reference to her brother’s illness was not further elaborated upon.

Members of the large audience, including North Korean generals and health workers, were seen weeping upon hearing the news of their leader’s illness.

It is the first time the 38-year-old bully has been seen in public in almost two weeks after Kim’s luxury mega-yacht was spotted near his secret mansion this week.

The 12-day lockdown came after the dictator spent a further 19 days out of the spotlight last month.

Kim’s health has been the subject of speculation for years after his weight skyrocketed to over 300 pounds.

Obesity has been shown to be a major risk factor in long-Covid – as have a number of other health conditions associated with the virus.

Earlier this year, a top doctor told The Sun Online it was likely the North Korean leader had gastric sleeve surgery to help him lose 40 pounds.

Kim’s sudden declaration of the end of Covid has sparked fears he may be preparing for a new nuclear test, according to Leif-Eric Easley, a professor of international studies at Seoul’s Ewha Woman’s University.

South Korean and US officials have both warned that Kim could be preparing for his country’s first nuclear test in five years.

Experts claim Kim wants to use his nuclear weapons to override President Biden over much-needed sanctions relief.

Kim’s sister’s fiery rhetoric could mean the North is looking for an excuse for its next military provocation against Seoul, Professor Easley added.

State television showed the crowd cheering and clapping as Kim’s sister vowed that if the neighbor tried to reintroduce the disease, her country would not only eradicate Covid, but so would the South Korean authorities.

She accused South Korean “puppets” of throwing “leaflets and dirty objects” into the North, adding: “We must stand firm against this”.

For years, activists in the South have flown balloons over the border to distribute propaganda leaflets criticizing Kim, sparking anger in North Korea.

South Korea has denied its northern neighbor’s claims of being responsible for the spread of Covid.

Government spokeswoman Lee Hyo-jeong expressed “regret” over North Korea’s claims.

North Korea’s Covid case numbers are believed to have skyrocketed when the country briefly reopened its northern border with China to freight traffic in January.

Military parades and other mass events in Pyongyang in April are said to have sparked further increases.
