ARGENTINA and Mexico fans traded blows in the stands amid shocking scenes of Saturday night’s World Cup clash.

A tense night saw off-field violence as Lionel Messi ultimately fueled Argentina’s 2-0 win.

Supporters were picked up by other fans who climbed over to confront each other.

Some were thrown through the air and one clip shows a crowd of onlookers savagely punching each other.

There were reports of violent clashes between fans of the two proud South American football nations before the game.

And during one game, sentiment spilled over among a recalcitrant majority. Argentina was under enormous pressure to win.

The 2-1 defeat by Saudi Arabia in the first group match was probably the biggest shock in World Cup history.

And just three points against Mexico would have left qualifying in their own hands.

Ultimately, Messi fired off a brilliant opener in the 64th minute despite being as calm as most of his other teammates before that.

And Sub Enzo Fernandez scored an even better goal late on to seal three points.

But Argentina must already beat undefeated leaders Poland on Wednesday to reach the round of 16.

And they will certainly need a much more accomplished presentation than they’ve put on in Qatar so far to squeeze through.
