Was Jeffrey Dahmer really obsessed with The Exorcist III?

The first episode of Netflix’s new Ryan Murphy series Monsters: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmer has an interesting scene in which serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer (Evan Peters) convinces his victim, 32-year-old Tracy Edwards (Shaun J. Brown), to watch The Exorcist III: Legion with him. Dahmer claims he loves the film and “watches it every day.”
It would be weird enough for a serial killer to be obsessed with it The Exorcist to the point that you watch it every day, but why the third film? In keeping with William Peter Blatty’s film trilogy, the third film was much better received than the planned second film, The Exorcist II: The Hereticbut it still feels random.
Is Dahmer’s obsession with the third move in Blatty’s “Faith Trilogy” true, or did the writers make up this interesting fact for the show?

Ironically, the Gemini Killer was at least partially inspired by another real-life serial killer, the Zodiac Killer.
