Warriors’ Klay Thompson honored the former Dallas Cowboys star, who tragically died last September, with a stylish pre-game gesture

KLAY Thompson paid tribute to former Dallas Cowboys tight end Gavin Escobar Wednesday before the game.

When the Golden State Warriors took on the Dallas Mavericks at the Lone Star State, 33-year-old Thompson took the opportunity to remember a hero from his hometown.

The Warriors tweeted a photo their star guard in Escobar’s #89 Cowboys jersey backstage at the American Airlines Center.

Like Thompson, Escobar was from Rancho Santa Margarita, California.

Both also graduated from Santa Margarita High School in 2008.

Escobar was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft from San Diego State.

He went on to call AT&T Stadium home for the next four seasons, where he rushed for 62 games and rushed for 333 yards and eight touchdowns.

Brief stints with the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns and the Miami Dolphins followed before joining the now-defunct Alliance of American Football in 2019.

Escobar then hung up his cleats and went to work for the Long Beach Fire Department instead.

On September 21, 2022, Escobar and another person were tragically killed in a climbing accident, according to NBC San Diego.

He was just 31 years old.

Escobar is survived by his wife Sarah and their daughters Josey and Charlotte.
