Warning to Ring Doorbell owners – a simple mistake will drive you crazy

Having the doorbell mounted too high on your door can be extremely frustrating.

This is especially important if your home is on a street.

If your Amazon Ring doorbell keeps alerting you about passing cars, you probably have the doorbell set too high.

“One of the biggest mistakes people make is mounting their Ring Video Doorbell too high, thinking they have to to capture people’s faces,” Ring said.

“In fact, face viewing is not a problem when the Ring Video Doorbell is mounted at the correct height of approximately 120 cm (47-48 inches) off the floor.”

Your Ring Doorbell has a very wide field of view.

But the infrared motion sensors have a much higher vision.

“These are thermal sensors that detect motion by monitoring the heat within the sensing area,” Amazon explained.

“Because people are hotter than their surroundings, heat readings change when a person enters the detection area.

“The motion sensors register this change as movement and issue an alarm.”

These motion sensors detect movement up to 180 degrees horizontally.

And they detect movement between distances of 1.5 meters and 5 meters (roughly 5 to 16 feet) outwards.

“They are also more sensitive to horizontal movement across the detection area than vertical,” Ring warned.

“Mount the Ring Video Doorbell too high and you’re more likely to catch the heat of passing cars than incoming visitors.”

So grab your tape measure and make sure your doorbell isn’t too high.

You can also use the Motion Zones feature in your Ring app to set the precise field of view for the motion sensors.
