EXPERT is warning about unusual Covid symptoms and when to seek urgent treatment as the omicron variant continues to spread in the US.
While fever, cough and shortness of breath are common signs that can Coronavirus infection, other strange symptoms are being attributed to the virus.
Doctors said one of the the first sign of the omicron . variant especially possibly an itchy throat, followed by a headache and fatigue.
While someone with Covid may not experience any of the following symptoms, it’s important to know that they could be signs of an infection.
Vaccine efficacy & Omicron
Expert studies have shown that the risk of severe illness from Covid-19 is reduced by 90% or more in fully vaccinated people.
While there have been breakthrough cases of Covid in vaccinated people, they are rare.
In the event of a breakthrough case, it is highly unlikely that the victim will be hospitalized with severe symptoms or die from the virus.
Health officials have recommended that the Omicron variant is more infectious and could lead to further breakout cases.
However, the spread could be offset by all vaccinated Americans getting a booster shot.
Current vaccines are expected to protect against severe illness, hospitalization, and death from infection with the Omicron variant.
With other variants, like Delta, the vaccine is still effective in preventing severe illness, hospitalization, and death.
Studies have also shown that side effects from vaccines are extremely rare.

One of the most unusual side effects reported since the start of the coronavirus pandemic is called covid toe.
They turn purple-red and swell, burn, and itch. Doctors say your hands can also be affected and this can last for weeks or months.
This symptom is an inflammatory skin condition that, in addition to a Covid infection, is commonly seen after someone is exposed to extreme cold.
“The good news is they go away,” says dermatologist Esther Freeman AARP.
The majority of people with covid toes do well after infection or no other symptoms, says the director of Massachusetts General Hospital Global Health Dermatology and assistant professor of dermatology at Harvard Medical School.
“We don’t see that this will cause permanent damage,” says Freeman.
Rash, including sudden onset of an itchy rash, has also been reported in Covid patients.
Loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting
Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and anorexia have been reported in some patients across all age groups.
William Chey, MD, professor of gastroenterology and nutritional sciences at the University of Michigan, told AARP: “There is no doubt at this point that GI symptoms could be indicative of Covid-19.
Symptoms can appear without the more typical and recognizable signs of coronavirus infection, such as fever and cough, the doctor said.
Experts explain that stomach problems can stem from viruses infecting cells in the digestive tract or from your body fighting an infection.
If you suddenly have these symptoms, you should see your doctor.
One side effect of omicrons that doctors are seeing is Night sweats, with people with Covid reporting waking up with drenched sheets.
Davey Smith, UCSD Chief of Infectious Diseases and Global Health, told CBS local branch KFMB that it was a “very strange” symptom accompanied by a “crazy set of symptoms” believed to be caused by the virus.
One patient told the station that the sweat lasted four nights.
“My giant forehead was covered in sweat. My pillow looked like a glass of water had been spilled on it and the sheets were soaked,” Jason Borgmann said.
Borgmann also noted another unusual symptom in his daughter, that his daughter was complaining of low back pain.
Dr. Smith says symptoms should not be ignored, even if you think you may just have a common cold.
Pale or discolored skin
Pale, gray or blue skin is a warning sign of the omicron that doctors are urging people to look for.
They say the rare complication in severe Covid cases means low oxygen levels in the blood.
The CDC calls this an “urgent warning sign” and says people should seek help immediately if you notice a change in color, accompanied by difficulty breathing, persistent pain or tightness in the chest, no awake body, or new confusion.
While headaches, dizziness, and confusion are common symptoms of the virus, AARP detailed alarming side effects reported by some people who have been diagnosed.
Some patients with no history of mental health problems reported mild to severe hallucinations.
Doctors said this symptom could be due to low oxygen to the brain or a virus attacking the brain directly.
Experts say hallucinations and delusions often fade with infection.
Another side effect to watch out for is myocarditis, or inflammation of the heart muscle.
AARP cites a May 2021 study of nearly 1,600 US college athletes with Covid that found that 2.3% developed myocarditis, which causes damage and can lead to serious health problems important, according to National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
Saurabh Rajpal, an assistant professor of cardiology at Ohio State University, says if you have Covid and start to notice chest pain, shortness of breath, or heart palpitations with exercise, the same level you did before the illness. infection, call your doctor and get checked.
Blood clots are another worrisome symptom that doctors have noted, along with high blood sugar in some older adults.
Researchers are also looking at a possible link between Covid and hearing loss, AARP report.
When to treat?
Because omicron symptoms can be mistaken for a common cold or flu, doctors recommend anyone experiencing them stay isolated until symptoms subside.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has provided a list of urgent warning signs that require immediate urgent medical attention:
- Shortness of breath
- Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
- New confusion
- Inability to wake or stay awake
- Pale, gray, or blue skin, lips or nails, depending on skin tone
Anyone experiencing these symptoms is encouraged to call 911 or your local emergency facility.
Inform the operator that you are seeking care for someone who has or may have Covid, CDC advise.
