Walmart shoppers were outraged by the “barricade that closes off an entire area of the store” as an extreme anti-theft measure

A WALMART shopper has revealed how her local store has completely barricaded its makeup and cosmetics department because she says there is too much theft in the area.
TikTok user @travel_life_mama shared a video of the barricade showing multiple clear partitions blocking about three aisles full of cosmetics.

“With so much makeup being stolen from your local Walmart, they need to barricade the cosmetics department and have an employee monitoring them at all times,” the TikToker said in the post.
Walmart shoppers are furious – some expressed in the comments of the TikTok video how this will stop them from taking their business there altogether.
Others explain the overall awkwardness of repeatedly asking a cashier to open a case to get an item, or having to purchase items before leaving the department.
One user said: “I try to prevent theft but that would put me off shopping there.”

A second user said, “I’d have to unsubscribe anyone any minute to open another case.”
A third user said: “They think it’ll help if people just don’t bother shopping there for their makeup anymore because they can’t get to the damn island.”
A fourth user said, “I can’t even go into the makeup department, I’m uncomfortable and I love that department.”
A fifth user said, “They did that to my Walmart and now there are never any customers in there lmao.”
Walmart CEO Doug McMillon told CNBC’s Squawk Box in December last year that theft rates at its stores across the country are at an all-time high.
“Theft is a problem. It’s higher than it has been in the past,” McMillon said.
“We have security measures, security measures that we have put in place depending on the store location. I think that local law enforcement staffing and being a good partner is part of that equation and that’s how we usually go about it.”
Walmart deals with a number of shoplifting problems.
Some shoplifters employ the “banana trick,” which consists of snatching an expensive item, such as a $10 steak, as code for a $0.50 per pound banana.
In another Walmart shoplifting scam, two thieves allegedly stole up to $10,000 worth of products by using an employee identification login to receive items at the checkout without paying.
