Walmart in hot water over dupes of popular brands – and that’s bad news for Ugg fans

WALMART has been hit with a major lawsuit over some of its most popular products.
Fashion brand Deckers filed suit against the retailer on Wednesday, alleging that the department store infringed on designs of its Ugg, Hoka and Teva brands.

According to California court filings, Walmart is facing charges for selling counterfeit several Deckers products, including Deckers’ classic Ugg Classic Ultra Mini.
Other duplicates include the Ugg Oh Yeah Slide, Hoka Ora Recovery Slide, Teva Hurricane Drift Sandal, and the Teva Original Universal Sandal in the 90’s in multiple colorways.
The complaint alleges that “Walmart released these similar products to take advantage of Deckers’ goodwill and reputation.”
Deckers has suggested that Walmart bought similar products from third-party manufacturers such as Portland Boot Company, Kendall + Kylie, and Fifth & Luxe.

In a press release, Walmart pledged to fully cooperate with legal proceedings.
“We respect intellectual property rights and take these allegations seriously,” Walmart said. “We will review the complaint once it has been served on us and, if necessary, respond in court.”
Deckers Brands will be seeking a jury trial and is optimistic that Walmart has made a decision that Walmart violated their designs, according to Footwear News.
The company also hopes to prevent Walmart from selling the product in the future.
This isn’t the first time Walmart has gotten into a dispute over shoe rights.
A few weeks ago, a Walmart customer filed a class action lawsuit against the supermarket.
The buyer has accused Walmart of fraud, specifically over the discrepancy in the prices of products sold in stores and online.
Walmart and Deckers officials have not yet responded to the US Sun’s request for comment.
