SHOTS were fired at a Chicago Walmart after a fight broke out between two groups of people, police said.

Frightened shoppers ran for their lives after gunshots rang out in the busy big-box store on Saturday night.

Chicago police have confirmed shots were fired at the Pullman Walmart around 6:42 p.m.

The shooting left panicked passers-by spooked and sparked chaos inside the retailer, a witness told NBC 5.

The suspects fled the scene and no one was taken into custody at the time.

Police flooded the scene and filled the parking lot with a heavy presence after the shooting.

Investigators continue to investigate the incident.

A Walmart spokesman said they are working with local officials to ensure all employees are accounted for, the local outlet reports.

The store remained closed for the rest of the evening.
