DOLLAR General and Walmart have been forced to end a flurry of rumors about their shopping experience.
A viral Facebook post announced the store would become a 24-hour operation, leaving fans confused as the store cracked down on the allegations.
The August 14 post, shared over 14,000 times, generated excitement that lasted well beyond the two days it was live.
One Dollar General fan even tweeted, “Well why are they making Dollar General 24 hours. Bring Walmart back, ugh.”
Hector, a customer representative for the brand, whose last name remains anonymous, confirmed by phone that no locations are currently open 24 hours a day.
He went on to say that there has been no announcement of a schedule change to date.
They are open from 8am to 11pm, with some locations open until midnight, he explained.
Dollar General Corporate quenched the rumor’s flames by confirming to Snopes that the 24-hour speculation is untrue.
Their hours of operation for each location, they said, can be found on the Dollar General website.
While Walmart used to have a 24-hour cycle for some of its locations, rumors of overnight status returning have had a backlash.
A similar post on August 9 went viral on Facebook after claims that Walmart was accessible 24 hours a day.
Walmart also put an end to their fake buzz.
“There are no plans at this time to bring our Walmart stores back to 24/7 operation,” Charles Crowson, a Walmart spokesman, told USA TODAY in an Aug. 11 email.
On July 29, the company also denied rumors of an overnight stay Twitter.
Though buyers and social media took the post at face value, USA TODAY reported that some users thought the post was satire.
Walmart and Dollar General are said to be resuming scheduled hours on their websites and have not indicated otherwise
