It is currently taking up to six weeks for authorities to respond to requests – but a new legal target of less than a month is announced today.

Sarah’s Law is named in memory of eight-year-old Sarah Payne, who was murdered in 2000 by a previously convicted sex offender.

Her mother Sara Payne MBE said, “This is a historic ‘watershed moment’ for child protection today.”

The move is part of a broader crackdown on child abuse unveiled today by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

A new Grooming Gangs Taskforce will deploy specialized officers to assist police in areas threatened by gangs targeting children and young women.

The joint National Crime Agency and police operation will use police-recorded ethnic data for the first time – to weed out suspects who evade justice due to cultural sensitivities.

Last night Home Secretary Suella Braverman said that a “blind eye was turned, for reasons of political correctness,” to “vulnerable white English girls who were raped, drugged and injured by gangs of British-Pakistani men”.

Citing the Rotherham foster care case, she hammered cops and local authorities over failing children.

Her comments were echoed by the PM, who added: “For too long political correctness has prevented us from weeding out vile criminals who exploit children and young women.

“We will stop at nothing to eradicate these dangerous gangs.”

But Labor hit back, saying abuse occurs in “all cultures”.
