Virgil van Dijk gives Liverpool an injury boost ahead of the Champions League final by declaring fit for the Paris showdown

VIRGIL VAN DIJK is fit for the start of the Champions League final on Saturday.

The Liverpool defender was substituted with a hamstring injury ahead of extra time in the FA Cup final win over Chelsea – and was then an unused substitute in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Wolves.

But Dutch star Van Dijk said: “I’m fine, absolutely fine. No problems and of course I’m really looking forward to Saturday.”

When asked if a break helped him, VVD, 30, added: “Yes, physically, definitely.

“My body enjoys a bit of rest after so many games, so many tense moments.

“And I think maybe a little knock in the FA Cup final was a sign my body needed to rest.

“I feel absolutely fine and I’m now looking forward to what I hope will be a special evening.”

The news is one of three major impulses for boss Jürgen Klopp ahead of the Reds’ date with fate.

The German thinks Thiago is fit for the Champions League final.

And he could join Fabinho in midfield as the Brazilian is already back in training.

Thiago, 31, sustained an Achilles injury on the final day of the Premier League campaign against Wolves.

He was substituted just before half-time as Reds fans feared the influential star would sit out Saturday’s game in Paris.

Thiago took a break from training on Wednesday morning but should be included in the afternoon session.

And Klopp provided a positive update on his No.6.

The German said: “I’ve only just met him but he has a good chance [of playing the fixture]. He will train this afternoon.

“He did some stuff this morning and he’s going to do a session with the players later.

TRIPLE INJURY BOOST

“At the moment it looks like he could take part in training tomorrow. That would of course be quite helpful.

“From there we will then continue. It’s surprisingly good.

“I wasn’t very positive after the game, but we got word that night that it wasn’t looking too bad. We’ll see.

“As you can imagine, three days before a game and you can’t train isn’t ideal, but you just have to be sure and do the right thing at the right moment.”

But while Thiago’s commitment is still unclear, it looks like Fabinho can play against Real Madrid at the Stade de France.

The holding midfielder – such a vital player for Liverpool – suffered a hamstring problem against Aston Villa on May 10.

That forced the 28-year-old out of the FA Cup final and the Premier League final.

But Fabinho was put through his paces with his teammates today with a big boost.
