A lot of time has passed since then Upload Season 1 is out – 22 months long to be exact! – and for Nathan and Nora, the long-awaited premiere of Season 2 this Friday brings plenty of distance as well.
When the satirical sci-fi comedy finally ended, Nathan found himself without data and frozen in Lakeview’s 2nd floor Gig, unable to respond to Nora’s declaration of love. Nora then flees the city from those involved in Nathan’s death, while he has an unexpected visitor: his old Ingrid uploaded to the digital afterlife to be with Nathan.
When the new season begins, “[Nathan] doesn’t know where Nora is, he doesn’t know if she’s in danger,” star Robbie Amell previews in the video above. “He also wanted to tell her that he loved her. So he needs to find her, and really, the only way he can do it is with Ingrid’s help, even though she doesn’t know she’s helping him. He can’t be at 2 Gig, he can’t be on low data.”
Unbeknownst to Nathan, Nora is hiding in the woods with the Luddists, living out of the country and completely disconnected from technology. “They’re on a trajectory that is taking them further apart at the start of the season,” said creator Greg Daniels.
And as more time passed, “it started to feel like Nora might not want to be found. It started to feel like everything was probably over,” Amell shared. “Then she met someone else. It’s time for her to start trying to move on. Then seeing each other again, and that feeling was like changing everything.”
Nora’s new friend is a Ludd supporter named Matteo (played Royal pain“Paulo Costanzo) who “wants to disrupt the digital world built by corporations,” Daniels describes.
More about Andy Allo, who plays Nora: “Matteo is passionate and has very strong beliefs. I think that’s something that resonated with Nora. They compliment each other. They are a good couple. “
“There is still a part of Nora that doesn’t end with Nathan, but she is desperately trying to move on with Matteo. It’s sad, it’s all like that! Allo continued to laugh. “He didn’t tell her he loved her, he had an ex there!”
While that seems like the odds are piling up with Nathan and Nora, “I don’t think all hope is lost,” Allo admitted, “but I think it’s going to take a lot of work to win Nora back.”
