Fast! What is a seven-letter word ending in “hole”? If you answered “fuck”, then A) you should probably see a very good therapist and B) have Saturday night live There’s a sketch for you!
Word Crunch – a game show hosted by Andrew Dismukes – basically a word search. Due to the writers’ strike, everything is written by sound engineer Chris (Sarah Sherman, her most rowdy Jersey girl). So, naturally, the table is filled with the word “hole mother”.
Now, will you find that word in the dictionary? Absolutely not. But the faith that host Zoë Kravitz has as a contestant will make you doubt yourself. After being told the word wasn’t real, she countered, “You might not want to think about it, but they have them, so…”
The game became unfamiliar with the name “hole”, “cuckold hole” and countless other holes appearing on the board. The other contestants – Aidy Bryant and Aristotle Athari – happily came up with “beach” and “water” while Kravitz found the words dirtier and dirtier. Let this be a lesson to any network operator looking to hire spoilers during the next writers’ strike.
The real joy here comes from Kravitz’s poor performance. Sketches like this are often based on extremely prominent characters or particularly weird game rules. But it’s her mild annoyance and deep suspicion that everyone else is an idiot for not knowing that “fuck” is a non-stop funny thing.
This sketch feels like it was written by someone who is absolutely sick of seeing their social media feeds crammed with friends bragging about their Wordle scores. If you feel the same way, let Word Crunch be the game for the rest of us who are good with words.
Elsewhere in the episode, Kravitz played a maid of honour who had inadvertently let her new husband know exactly what he had put himself in.
So how is the host’s ticket price this week? Rate Kravitz’s episode below, then let us know what you think in the Comments.
