VIDEO: How to use a cheap bunker? Check out the experimental shelter made from a rowan tree

The Ministry of Defense announced another tender for the sale of bunkers in the Šumperk, Jeseník and Opava districts. Nobody knows what a First Republic monolith made of reinforced concrete without land can be used for in peacetime, so the army sells bunkers for a pittance. The architect Jan Tyrpekl bought such a bunker and thought about how he could transform it into an original cozy place for 50,000 crowns.

Today, the turnips have significance for military history fans who are trying to restore them to their original state. But is it suitable for something else? This question was asked by the architect Jan Tyrpekl in 2017, who enjoys devoting himself to experimental work.
He bought a tree near Vratěnín in South Moravia and began sketching the shelter project.

With the support of his family, he set about implementing it with his own hands and in collaboration with friends and students. His airy shelter is such a successful work that it was nominated for the 2018 Czech Architecture Prize.

Jan Tyrpekl’s experiment showed everyone that even on twelve square meters, the floor plan of a bunker, you can build a pleasant, airy bunker in which you definitely won’t feel cramped.
Large windows ensure contact with nature and light. In the Cozy Home in a secluded location you will feel safe and free and enjoy both privacy and breathtaking views of the countryside.
The couple restored a 200-year-old house. They say we used to be able to see the sky from the ground floor
And when it gets cold, there is a fireplace at your disposal. Comfort, romance and originality. It is enough to save 20,000 for the purchase of a bunker and 50,000 for materials. Polycarbonate panels instead of windows can be carried to the destination on the shoulder by two people. The main material is ordinary spruce boards. The accessible roof resembles a terrace.
Inspiration for others?
For Jan Tyrpekl the Ropík served as Base for a simple wooden object. If the wood succumbs to the ravages of time, it can be removed and something else built on top of the bunker. Or a replica?

“My wish for the future would be that even more oleanders experience a similar fate of resurrection. For example, municipalities that have them in the cadastre could try to use them conceptually. It would certainly benefit them, the visitors, but also the landscape and the fortresses themselves,” commented Jan Tyrpekl on his experiment A cozy house built on a bunker.
