THE legend and hype surrounding Victor Wembenyama continues to grow after a story of his childhood coach was revealed.

The 19-year-old candidate is considered the most exciting basketball candidate since LeBron James and is the pick of the 2023 NBA draft.

Gifted with size and unique skills, Wembanyama has wowed NBA scouts with his footwork, grips and jump shot.

Wembenyama is 7ft 5 with shoes on and is already four inches taller than NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal.

The French center was destined for greatness since childhood.

His youth basketball coach, Bryan George, recalls the first time he checked Wembenyama into a game at the age of 13.

“In his first game with the U15s I put him in and in his very first game he ran from corner to corner, got the ball moving, stopped a dime short of the three-point line and shot .”

“I thought: is he crazy? What the hell is he doing? And then the ball went in – a big throw. Everyone in the gym smiled. You can tell people were like, who is this guy? That monster?” George recalled Slam Magazine.

Another example is from Bouna Ndiaye, al French basketball agent.

He described a story about how he first saw Wembenyama play basketball as a kid.

“I saw an artist [in him]. He just played the game with ease. No look pass, one creator, no pressure at all, no position, three pointers.”

“He was everywhere. It was such a pleasure to watch,” said Ndiaye.

The Metropolitans 92 center is having a breakthrough year this season, averaging 21.5 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 3.2 blocks in the French league.

He’s also shooting 46.7% from the field, although his 3-point percentage has dropped below 30%.

The NBA regular season ends April 9 – The Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs currently have the highest chances of becoming the No. 1.
