A veteran got out of his car to visit a nearby store. When he got back, he noticed something about his car that he never expected. Someone noticed that he was a former soldier and wanted to express his feelings about fighting for our country with a note and a small “gift”.
After heroically serving this country, the soldier who did not reveal his name is off duty due to an injury that left him disabled.
Proud of his commitment to his country and defending the freedom of his fellow citizens, the veteran was issued a special Army license plate on his vehicle. A man walking by stopped upon noticing this and left a surprise anonymously as a result, according to the veteran’s post on Reddit.
Countless people probably walked right past his car without stopping to thank him for his service that day and every other day since the hero got the license plates. This day was different, however, as the passer-by who noticed knew the victim all too well.
The Good Samaritan, who identified himself only as “Retired Navy Helicopter Pilot,” said, “Lunch is on me, soldier! Thank you for your dedicated service.” The note was stuck under his windshield with a $10 bill when the wounded veteran found it.
Never in his life has he been greeted with a random act of kindness as a thank you for his service, and it took another veteran to be first, as he understands. This disabled veteran struggled to get back to his car, the weight of his wounds a constant reminder of the sacrifice to strangers, then found there a few dollars and a thank you card. It doesn’t take much to lift the spirits of those who need it, and it was probably the words this Marine wrote that meant more to this man than the free meal.
