SERGIO PEREZ passed his Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen to win the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The Mexican started from pole at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit and drove brilliantly under unrelenting pressure from the chasing pack.

Nobody was more relentless than defending champion Verstappen, who started 15th and stormed through to second place.

The Dutchman put serious pressure on his teammate to maintain his lead and grab a big win.

But Perez remained composed in the face of a predatory Verstappen to take first place.

Sir Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, was only able to finish fifth after starting seventh.
