Vegan activist who kept farm pigs in a London flat has been arrested by Putin’s cops in Moscow for walking a baby cow in Red Square

A VEGAN activist who rescued a pig from a farm and kept it in her tiny London flat has been arrested in Moscow – after walking a cow across Red Square.

Alicia Day, 34, was arrested in the Russian capital’s famous square after reportedly attempting to walk a calf.

The New York-born vegan activist made headlines back in 2019 when, while living in Southall, west London, she rescued a pig and kept it as a pet in her flat.

She dubbed the pig “Jixy Pixy” and said she treated him like a “kid,” spoiling him with trips to Wagamama, £400 cab rides and even sharing a bath with him.

She was forced to give up the pig after the RSPCA found out what she was doing and took it to an animal shelter.

Last year she moved to Warsaw, Poland, where she got in trouble again for adopting a pig and keeping it in her apartment.

She has now been arrested in Moscow for similar animal-related offences.

Russian media reports that the US citizen was detained by law enforcement officers while walking the calf in Red Square, where the Kremlin and the famous St. Basil’s Cathedral are located.

She reportedly explained that she bought the animal online and wanted to walk him.

Day was arrested under the Misdemeanor Code article “Breach of established procedure for holding a meeting, rally, demonstration, procession or picket line.”

Moscow’s Tverskoy court told state media that Day allegedly tried to resist arrest.

She was charged with a tortious act of obstructing pedestrians and resisting arrest.

Any offense is punishable by up to 15 days imprisonment or community service.

Day made headlines when she paid £30 to buy a pig in 2019 after seeing it advertised online.

She has spent £400 getting him from the farm in Exeter, Devon, to her two-bedroom flat in west London.

“I can’t save them all, but I thought I’d save one,” she said at the time. “Anything for my baby.”

Day spoiled “Jixy Pixy” with trips to malls and parks, even taking him for a walk on a leash around Ealing Broadway in front of bewildered onlookers.

She described him as “even easier to walk than a dog” and said many people would crowd around him and take pictures when they saw her walking.

She said she wanted to emphasize that “pigs aren’t just food,” and said some people told her they became “vegetarians” after meeting their pig.

Day even shared a bath with her meaty friend.

But her landlord looked more gloomy and threatened to evict her if she didn’t get rid of the pig.

Eventually, she turned Jixy over to the RSPCA, but not before taking him to Wagamama for one last meal.

“We shared the tofu pad thai,” she said. “He always bullies me into giving him half the food.”

Their actions were condemned by animal rights activists and farmers’ associations.

Ian Woodhurst, World Animal Protection’s Farm Campaigns Manager, said at the time: “Pigs need a specific diet, need to be kept separate from other animals and be able to express natural behaviors such as burrowing and foraging in the soil.

“They need plenty of space, a minimum of 36 square meters and access to an outdoor wallow and shelter from the sun.

“Also, pigs, for example, need a permit when they are taken from home to the vet and cannot be transported in cars.”
