DONNY VAN DE BEEK has been mentally crushed by Paul Pogba, who played before him at Manchester United, despite the French star’s poor attitude.
Former Ajax star Van de Beek was one of Europe’s hottest properties when he joined United for £40million in the summer of 2020.
But the midfielder’s career has plummeted and he even survived a failed loan spell at Everton from January last season.
Van de Beek, now back at United, has little left to offer despite taking on Dutch boss Erik ten Hag.
Former VDB agent Guido Albers told Voetbal Primeur: “I saw the disappointment with the way he was treated by Manchester United.
and he saw firsthand what I did to reverse the situation.
“In the Netherlands Donny got all the credit, performed well and was super popular with the fans.
“He never played for Manchester United. The relationship between him and the club has really cooled off a lot.
“He had to play against Paul Pogba, who was late reporting to the training camp, apologized and was allowed to play again.
“Instead of a boy training ten hours a day for eight weeks to show he was good enough.
“I was then overwhelmed by this disappointment. I underestimated what not playing anymore had done to him mentally.

“I should have seen earlier how I can help him.”
VDB, who have won 19 caps, are now in danger of missing out on the Netherlands’ World Cup squad. The flop has only played 19 minutes all season.
