Vacationer filmed by wife in fatal “tombstone” jump from Mallorca cliff near Magaluf, called ex-footballer

A TOURIST who died after throwing himself off a Mallorcan cliff in a tombstone stunt in front of his horrified wife and children has been branded as a former footballer.

Mourad Lamrabatte’s heartbroken widow filmed him jumping more than 22 meters to his death on a small island opposite the Mallorcan resort of Santa Ponsa, near Magaluf.

Shocking footage showed the 31-year-old Dutch holidaymaker jumping off a rock face on May 12.

As he leaped into the air, Lamrabatte let out a mighty yell – but didn’t have enough momentum to clear the razor-sharp rocks below.

He then crashed into her at high speed, and his wife could be heard in the clip shouting, “Oh my god.”

The police have not yet been able to question her about Thursday’s tragedy because she is still in shock.

A post-mortem on Friday found that Lamrabatte drowned in a semi-conscious state after hitting the water, rather than dying from impact injuries caused by hitting the rocks as originally thought.

Overnight Lamrabatte’s former club SBV Vitesse, one of the oldest professional football clubs in the Dutch top football league called the Eredivisie, expressed its condolences to his family and friends in a message on its website.

Chelsea and England star Mason Mount joined the same club for a season in July 2017 and was named Vitesse Player of the Year.

Lambrabatte, who used the surname Besselink as a footballer before changing it, used to play with Vitesse’s reserve team Jong Vitesse.

His old club said in their statement: “Vitesse has received the sad news that Mourad Lamrabatte has tragically passed away.

“The former Jong Vitesse striker had just turned 31. He wore the club’s colors in the 2010/2011 season when he was part of the U23 team that won the U23 Cup that season.

“In July 2010, he scored in a first-team spectacle.”

A club spokesman added: “Vitesse wishes Mourad’s family and friends strength to cope with their great loss.”

According to unconfirmed local reports, his partner filmed his reckless stunt for a live streaming channel.

She was sitting with her two children in a boat they had rented that morning.

The tragedy happened on Thursday just before 2 p.m. on the Malgrats Islands, made up of two islets and located in the municipality of Calvia, opposite the Bay of Santa Ponsa.

The body of the victim, a sports fanatic who became a kickboxer after quitting soccer, was recovered after a search involving police divers and the Coast Guard.

It is unclear if local authorities are investigating the incident further.

Tombstoning is a stunt where adventure seekers throw themselves off the cliffs and dive feet first into the water.

On the same day, a 34-year-old British tourist fell to his death from the seventh floor of his hotel in the Mallorcan party town of Magaluf.

Witnesses filmed his fall after seeing him risk his life after pacing up and down a narrow ledge on the outside of his balcony.
