He revealed that Cyber attack may want to target local institutions to stir up political unrest.

Taylor warned that if the power supply was breached, leaving Americans in the dark, it could trigger a declaration of war.

“If Americans accustomed to living comfortably are facing months without electricity or being abandoned in the freezing cold, that could be the cause of the war,” he said.

The expert revealed that a “saving grace” is a power supply that is difficult to achieve.

Russia's cyber attack could take the US'back to the 19th century by attacking the police and the government'

“There are thousands of power companies in the United States, so it is almost impossible to hack them all,” he said.

“People worry that a city like New York could be wiped out by a cyber attack, but the idea that the whole country would be wiped out is highly unlikely.”

The West, including the US, imposed a series of sanctions on Russia after the invasion – something Putin likened to a declaration of war.

“If Russia feels that they are being attacked, then they can counterattack,” Taylor said.

Cybersecurity experts speculate that Russian hackers may want to shut down emergency services or targeted state police forces.

Brandon Weichert, a geopolitical expert, warned: “Putin will target critical infrastructures not only in Ukraine but also in the US so that the West cannot disrupt Russia’s war in Ukraine.

“As this war goes on and it gets more bloody, let’s hope our lives in the United States are increasingly disrupted in cyberspace.”

Weichert warns that a devastating attack could leave the US vulnerable back 19order century.

Last month, President Biden warned that the US is “ready to respond” if Russia targets critical US infrastructure.

‘SN READY TO ANSWER’

The government believed Russia is behind attacks on US pharmaceutical companies and claims that major gas companies have been targeted – weeks before Russian forces invaded Ukraine.

Hackers are said to have accessed more than 100 computers during this time.

In an effort to bolster defenses, the president signed a law that requires critical infrastructure organizations to report cyberattacks within 72 hours.

And, any organization that pays the ransom must report it to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Authority (CISA) within 24 hours.

Experts say low-scale hacking attacks on the US have been going on for years but warn not to underestimate the impact of a potential Russian cyberattack. CNN report.

“If we just look at what they can do, to the public’s knowledge, there’s only one country out there that has the experience of destroying the electrical system,” said Robert M Lee.

And, Melissa Hathaway, who led cybersecurity programs in the Bush and Obama administrations, said: “If I needed to cause a national crisis in another country, they knew how to do this, they did it. systematic testing.”

US ‘VULNERABLE’

Cybersecurity expert Glenn S Gerstell warns of the possibility of Washington’s attack.

I said Guardians: “If we had approached this correctly 20 years ago, we would have been virtually invulnerable to cyberattacks.

“But unfortunately that’s not the case.”

Gerstell, who served as a general adviser to the National Security Agency, does not believe Russia will “turn off the lights” but warns the private sector, in particular, is not prepared for attacks.

“The United States has responded and pushed back on cyber accountability by grafting it onto existing government agencies, making each agency accountable for its own domain,” he said.

The hackers, suspected of having ties to Russia, have carried out a number of attacks against the US in recent months.

The Colonial Pipeline – which normally transports 2.5 million barrels of gas per day – was closed on April 29 after it was broken into by Russian crime group DarkSide.

The attack crippled fuel supplies for days in the southeastern United States.

Meatpacking company JBS also fell victim to a cyberattack that affected production at its pork plants in Iowa, Minnesota, Texas and Colorado in May.

In 2020, Kremlin spy hacked Microsoft and infiltrated the US nuclear weapons stockpile as part of a nine-month “virtual invasion” of Moscow.

Hackers used a variety of techniques, including corrupting updates from the SolarWinds network management application.
