Morgan Vacala posted the video to the social media app with the caption, “Don’t be stupid, check your sunscreen’s expiration date.”

She wrote in a text overlay, “I will never forget the look on the doctor’s face,” while showing off a painful burn on her forehead.

People took to the comments for more information about the painful story.

“IT EXPIRES??? I’m a grown adult and didn’t realize it,” one person commented.

Morgan replied, “My forehead will tell you it does indeed expire.”

Another person said: “Happened to me too when I was a kid. That’s why I keep buying new sunscreen every year. Ouch!”

Apparently, sunscreen loses its effectiveness when it’s on, reports the FDA.

“To ensure your sunscreen provides the sun protection promised on its label, the FDA recommends not using sunscreen products that have passed their expiration date (if any) or that have no expiration date and have not been purchased within the past three years,” says the FDA.

“Expired sunscreen should be discarded as there is no guarantee it will remain safe and fully effective.”

Morgan posted a follow-up video explaining what happened the day she sustained her severe burn.

“A year ago today I was standing in this exact spot with no hat and expired sunscreen,” she said in a pool.

She panned the camera to a group of friends, who then humorously sang, “Don’t buy a banana boat!”

Morgan also posted a third video of the healing process after getting the massive burn on her forehead.

“It took about 2-3 weeks to fully heal. I grew up boating and always in the pool. I’ve never had an issue so burning,” she wrote in a text overlay.

The US Sun reached out to Edgwell Personal Care, the company that manages the Banana Boat brand, for comment, but they didn’t immediately respond.
