Uma Pemmaraju dead at 64 – The Fox News Channel presenter, who was on the air on the day of publication, is mourned by fans

NEWS anchor Uma Pemmaraju, the founding anchor of Fox News Channel who was on the air during its 1996 launch date, has died at the age of 64.

Pemmaraju, who anchored Fox News’ American news headquarters from the station’s base in New York City, died Tuesday morning.

“We are deeply saddened by the death of Uma Pemmaraju, who was one of the founding anchors of FOX News Channel and was on the air the day we launched,” said Suzanne Scott, CEO of Fox News Media.

“Uma was an incredibly talented journalist as well as a warm and lovely person best known for her kindness to everyone she worked with. We extend our deepest condolences to her entire family.”

A cause of death was not publicly announced.

Before hosting shows for Fox, the award-winning presenter worked at CBS affiliate WBZ in Boston from 1992 to 1996.

Her family told WBZ-TV that she is a “noble soul and a pioneer as an Indian-Asian American journalist of importance.”

Pemmaraju was named Boston’s Best Anchor by Boston Magazine in 1996 and 1997 and has received multiple Emmy Awards for reporting and investigative journalism throughout her career.

She was named one of Spotlight Magazine’s 20 Fascinating Women of 1998.

She moved to NYC in 1996 and oversaw the launch of Fox News.

“At the time, Pemmaraju was one of the few Indian-American hosts to achieve national prominence, and she was loved by Fox News viewers and peers alike,” the outlet said of the former host’s death.

She has hosted shows such as Fox News Now, Fox On Trends and the Sunday edition of Fox News Live.

She also hosted The Fox Report, interviewing newsmakers, celebrities and political figures including the Dalai Lama.

Pemmaraju also hosted a variety of specials for Fox News, such as: B. A Special for Young People, in which top reporters offered advice to young adults on life’s challenges.

Fans of the savvy anchor mourned her death on social media.

“I was so sad to hear. @UmaPemmaraju was a beautiful person inside and out. Talented and friendly. A valued friend,” wrote former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee.

“So sad to hear of the death of another Boston broadcaster. RIP, Uma Pemmaraju,” tweeted Boston business writer Doug Banks.

“Rest in peace Uma… It was a pleasure to watch you and be loved by so many!” wrote another.
