And the target is hit with almost 12 tons of energy – a force powerful enough to obliterate body armor.

Used against Russian troops and helicopters, the Ukrainian-made weapon is capable of penetrating vehicle armor over an inch thick at close range.

The rifle entered service with the Ukrainian army as recently as 2021, and British special forces have been teaching recruits how to use the weapon in combat.

Ukrainian troops use the weapon to target enemy soldiers and lightly armored vehicles, communications equipment, and ammunition and fuel depots.

The rifle-equipped soldiers, some of whom are women, have also been used to attack flying helicopters and planes parked on the ground.

The rifle was reportedly used to deadly effect by soldiers from Ukraine’s Azov Brigade earlier this year in defense of the city of Mariupol.

To reduce the tremendous recoil, the rifle was fitted with a muzzle brake, a device typically found on tanks and artillery field guns.

The rifle has also been fitted with a recoil isolator to dampen recoil so it doesn’t damage the sniper’s shoulder.

The current world record for a long-range sniper kill is 3,540 meters, set in 2017 by a Canadian special operations sniper in Iraq.

The alligator could reach a similar range, but most shots between 12,000 and 25,000 yards would likely interfere with fire or be aimed at a large area target such as a communications or logistics unit.
