EU ‘unified’ announced major sanctions against Russia

The European Union this morning pledged to impose “major” new sanctions on Russia.

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms Russia’s unprecedented military aggression against Ukraine,” a statement released by the Council of Europe said.

“With its gratuitous and irrational military actions, Russia is seriously violating international law and undermining the stability and security of Europe and the world.

We also condemn Belarus’ participation in this act of aggression towards Ukraine and call on it to abide by its international obligations.

“We demand that Russia immediately cease its military actions, unconditionally withdraw all military forces and equipment from the entire territory of Ukraine and fully respect the territorial integrity, sovereignty and Ukraine’s independence.

“Such use of force and coercion has no place in the 21st century.

“We will meet later today to discuss this flagrant act of aggression and agree in principle on further restrictive measures that will have large and serious consequences for Russia’s actions.” , in close coordination with our transatlantic partners.
