That was after Ukraine’s Footballer of the Year was thrice Refused to quit as assistant coach of Russian giants Zenit St Petersburg.

Tymoshchuk has been an assistant coach of his former team Zenit since 2017.

His compatriots urged him to stand up to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine by resigning.

But Tymoshchuk instead kept quiet and continued working there.

That has now resulted in the Ukrainian FA (UAF) releasing a statement proposing some punishment for one of their top legends.

They want Tymoshchuk to strip him of 144 caps by removing him from the official list of Ukraine national teams.

And he will be ‘deprived’ of all silver trophies won while playing for Ukrainian clubs.

Furthermore, the UAF wants Tymoshchuk to lose his Continental Pro training license.

And they have also called on all public authorities to deprive him of state awards and honorary titles, including his 2006 Ukrainian Medal of Courage.

Tymoshchuk is one of the best players in Ukrainian football history, having played for a number of clubs including Shakhtar Donetsk and Bayern Munich.

The former midfielder has won a total of seven championships in his career, as well as nine domestic cups and three European titles – including the 2013 Champions League.

Former Ukraine captain Tymoshchuk also won a record 144 caps for the national team, 33 more than Andriy Shevchenko.

But now he has been erased from the history books due to his accursed silence before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Last week Tymoshchuk was criticized by Atalanta midfielder and Ukraine international Ruslan Malinovskyi for acting recklessly.

The player tweeted: “I don’t know about Tymoshchuk, you need to ask him. Hard to comment but weird (why he doesn’t) – I don’t think it’s true.

“100% of the time he is no longer (or will be) a legend of Ukrainian football.

“His previous achievements have been forgotten.”

Former football player Yevgeny Levchenko added: “Tolya, what’s wrong? You are from Ukraine. How can you keep quiet and continue working there?

“We played together for the same team, wore this t-shirt with pride, sang the song, won and lost.

“Are you just quiet now? Tolya, how will you live with this? ”
