Met Office expert on Sunday warning of thunder
The Met Office’s chief meteorologist Dan Suri said: “In contrast to last night and this morning, Sunday will likely see heavy rain and thunderstorms in more locations within the warning area. Where thunderstorms occur, the effects of heavy rain and frequent lightning strikes are possible.
“Some locations could see 15-20mm of rain within an hour, with a low probability of 50mm in an hour, most likely over parts of the Midlands, south-east England and East Anglia, while there is a risk of thunderstorms over the northern part of the warning smaller.
Then Sunday afternoon is likely to bring fresh showers, some heavy and thundery, over the southern third of the UK. North of the warning area in northern England and Scotland, conditions will be much calmer.
If you are planning outdoor events for Sunday, please keep an eye on the weather forecast for your area regularly for updates.”
