In its three-month outlook for councils and businesses, the Met Office said: “The chances of a warm spring are much higher than usual.”
Bookmakers cut the odds on the hottest April day on record to 4/5.
Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead said: “The odds say we’ll roast.”
The Met Office, which considers spring to be the months of March, April and May, says 24C (75F) is expected over the course of several weeks, with 29C (84F) coming later in the season.
The news comes as Britons will plunge into ‘early summer’ temperatures next week due to the Arctic heatwave.
The Met Office says that London in particular will see clear skies and peak temperatures around 17°C on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
