UK weather forecast: Brits set for wettest January EVER as Met Office issues flood warnings amid downpours and high winds

FLOODING is expected to hit Britain in the coming days as an arctic blast draws closer – bringing heavy rain, gusty winds and freezing temperatures overnight.

Yesterday saw torrential rain sweep across the country, with wetter weather set for this evening as a bleak January well and the real start.

And bookies currently only put it in the record books as February 5 this month as January was the wettest ever after flood warnings were issued across the UK today.

Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati said: “There is a good chance this month will break January’s record for all the wrong reasons, with worse weather en route.”

As of today, a Met Office forecast said: “Cloudy, thick enough for occasional rain or drizzle, mainly in the north and west. Mostly dry in the southeast, where some of the weather is brighter. Softer than Sunday. ”
