The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow across most of northern Scotland.
Blizzard conditions are forecast with 10cm of snowfall and strong northerly winds.
The weather service has issued the warning for next week.
It will be active from Tuesday midnight to Wednesday 11:59 PM.
Temperatures will also drop into the sub-zero zone as night frosts and cold winds set in.
Service impact is likely.
Special care should be taken when traveling as some roads and railways may be affected.
Commuters are warned to expect longer journeys that day.
Those who want to cycle in the snow are advised to use other means of transport if possible.
If not, they are told to wear high-visibility clothing, use a bright flashing light, and slow down to avoid accidents on ice.
The Met Office said: “There is reasonable confidence that temperatures will remain below average and it looks set to get even colder from Wednesday.
“Showers will increasingly fall as snow in the north, sometimes even to lower levels with notable accumulations over the Scottish mountains.”
It comes after a heavy blanket of fog crept in over England this week.
Commuters have woken up to freezing 0C temperatures and thick fog in southern and central regions.
