AUTHORITIES have issued a warning after four holidaymakers drowned in just two days at a popular tourist spot in France.

The warning comes as four tourists died after swimming on Alpes-Maritimes beaches.

The latest victim was a 78-year-old man who drowned in Menton, the Department of Fire and Rescue Service reports 20 Minutes.

The tragic incident happened on Wednesday when another man in his 70s drowned on Cocoon Beach in Nice.

The day before, a 61-year-old drowned in Cannes and another 84-year-old in Vallauris.

The fire and rescue services have intervened in a total of fourteen incidents since June 1, four of them fatally.

The service urged holidaymakers to exercise caution, particularly “the elderly, the infirm and parents of young children”.

In a statement, it added that “one in four drownings is fatal and the heat spike multiplies the risk of drowning by three.”

An Irish tourist reportedly drowned on the island of Menorca last week.

The unnamed 69-year-old vacationer was pulled from the sea by onlookers trying to revive him.

Another British tourist was seriously injured after jumping into a pool at a beach club in Magaluf and hitting his head on the ground.

The 19-year-old was taken to hospital after the accident over fears he might be left paralyzed.

Last month, a 19-year-old British toddler drowned in a swimming pool near Benidorm.

Freddie Joseph Briggs was pulled unconscious from the water on the Costa Blanca in Spain.
