American boxer Esparza suffered a nasty wound above his eye, which meant the fight had to be halted.

Kelly won the single deposit as a result of an accidental cut.

Taken to Instagram After the altercation, Esparza shared a picture of the horrific injury, writing: “Sorry guys, accidentally hit my head on a bump that resulted in a cut and the game was stopped.

“Good spirits! Just a few stitches. Thank you so much @furygrappling for having me and @daniellekellybjj for the match.”

Meanwhile, Kelly said: “So I just wanted to say I wish @carlaesparza1 a speedy recovery. Neither I nor she is expecting it and there may be a rematch in the future if it does. does not match the schedule.

“Honestly, I was very confused and a lot of adrenaline was going through me. I was really excited to be in such a big event with everyone watching.

“I also just removed this mark on my face lol. Thank you everyone for the support and my sponsors. Thank you @furygrappling @ufcfightpass.”

Esparza entered the FURY Pro Grappling showdown shortly after Kelly’s original opponent, Rose Namajunas, tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile back in the UFC, director Dana White recently confirmed Esparza deserves a world title.

I said ESPN that she was next in line ‘100%’ for a Namajunas straw belt stroke.

Winning five consecutive fights in the UFC means she will once again face Namajunas inside the octagon.

The pair first fought each other in 2014, when Esparza took the lead to become the UFC’s first strawweight champion.

She lost the title in 2015, but is likely to regain the title in the near future.

A rematch date has yet to be decided, but another shot to UFC world glory isn’t for Esparza.
