Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua will NOT come off as a ‘financial suicide’ for AJ this year, claims Gyspy King’s father John

ANTHONY JOSHUA won’t sign up for short-term domestic dust test with Tyson Fury as he doesn’t want to commit ‘financial suicide’

WBC heavyweight king Fury threw AJ a shock championship lifeline earlier this month after his British rival’s second straight loss to Oleksandr Usyk.

Despite Fury publicly claiming the December deadline for her domestic dusting had passed, negotiations for the biggest fight in British boxing history are still ongoing.

But Fury’s old man, John, doesn’t think Joshua’s team will allow him to take the fight.

The 58-year-old told The Daily Mail: “I can understand why [they are stalling on the contracts]. He’s her golden boy.

“A loss to Tyson Fury, financially… it would be financial suicide for them, wouldn’t it. That’s why they don’t want it.”

John insists Team Fury would understand if Joshua turned down the fight to spend time with his family after his long and grueling training camp for his rematch against Usyk in August.

He said, “You know what. If he had a viable explanation that said, ‘You know what, I’m not ready for this.

“‘I just got over a loss and I want to spend some time with my family.’

“We would understand if he was just telling the truth – which is the truth. He has said elsewhere that he has only had one bad defeat behind him.

“He’s going to be a little depressed about that, you know, and we can understand that.

Fury and Joshua were set to fight last year after agreeing a blockbuster two-fight deal in March 2020.

But former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder fell short of the undisputed fight as he won his arbitration for a trilogy fight with Fury.

Joshua seems keen to get his hands on Fury, although John believes the fallen champion has serious “doubts” about the fight.

He said: “I think Joshua is like he has doubts about fighting the Gypsy King.

“You know they’ve had this contract for well over a month now. Nothing has happened.

“But what they want, you see, is a back and forth for the next two years or 12 months.

“Twelve months or two years back and forth like they did with Deontay Wilder. We don’t want that.

“Tyson completed it and set a deadline as he wants it signed.

“He wants to go to camp and then get going. Kickstart the fight and give the fans what they want. We don’t care about back and forth.”
