TWO women in their 50s were killed by a teenager armed with an ax at the school where they worked, sources said.
The horror unfolded when the 18-year-old student, who also had a knife and a hammer, rioted at around 5:15 p.m. at the high school in Berlin Sweden.
Dramatic footage shows armed police officers storming the school while searching for the maniac.
The incident happened in Malmö Latinskola, a large secondary school in the country’s third largest city.
Police said the victims were in their 50s and were taken to hospital, but around 11pm it was announced they had sadly died.
The student was held at school and has now been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Police received reports of what was described as “continued deadly violence,” local media said.
Frightened students described how police officers, guns drawn, arrived at the school and two people were carried away on stretchers. SVT Reports.
At that time there were around 50 students in the school and some were preparing for a musical.
Several other people at the school were also injured in the attack, local police said.
School principal Fredrik Hemmensjö described the incident as “absolutely horrific”.
“It’s a feeling of helplessness, it’s terrible,” he told the Sydsvenska Paper.
The newspaper reported that some of the students initially thought the attack was a hoax.
They were held in classrooms for several hours while police searched for other attackers.
Police spokesman Nils Norling said: “Shortly after five o’clock we received an alarm that there had been some noise or something similar.
“Loud voices could be heard at school. We sent a patrol to the scene and the perpetrator was arrested shortly thereafter.”
In a statement, Malmo Police said: “Two women in their 50s have died as a result of violence.
“The women were busy at school. Relatives have been notified.
“An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. The man is a student at the school.”
Malmo Police Chief Petra Stenkula later said: “It is with great sadness that we learn that two people lost their lives in this terrible event and our thoughts are with their relatives and friends.”
The school remained cordoned off with caution tape for several hours after the incident, and numerous police cars and ambulances were still at the scene.
Authorities had not yet revealed a motive for what happened.
