Two underperforming Walmart stores are closing this week – check if your city is on the list

WALMART will begin closing locations this week as the company claims they are not up to its standards.

In a statement to The US Sun, a spokesman said there is not a single reason why certain retail stores are being closed.

It includes a variety of factors such as past and current financial performance.

It is “consistent with the threshold guiding our strategy to close underperforming locations,” the spokesman said.


Walmart will begin shelling locations on Friday, February 17th.

They both apply to pick-up transactions.

One of them is located in Chicago, Illinois at 6840 North McCormick Boulevard, and the other is in Bentonville, Arkansas at 3701 SE Dodson Road.

“Because these are pickup and delivery-only locations, we’ve made what we’ve learned from each location a part of our approach to pickup and delivery at our local stores, where we look forward to serving our customers said Walmart.


In the coming weeks there will be more.

Two more Walmarts will close in Chicago on Friday, March 10th.

These include the Homewood and Plainfield stores, located at 17550 South Halsted Street and 12690 S. Route 59, respectively.

The closing dates for these stores are set for Friday 10th March.

Additionally, three other locations will also reportedly close on the same day, as follows:

  • Store at 301 San Mateo Blvd SE Albuquerque, New Mexico
  • Walmart convenience store at 6900 US Highway 19 N in Pinellas Park, Florida
  • Shop in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 10330 W. Silver Spring Dr.

Both New Mexico and Wisconsin locations are reportedly closing over food desert concerns.

Milwaukee 2nd District Alderman Mark Chambers Jr. recently said he will work with the Department of Urban Development to “identify potential replacement options.”

The US Sun reached out to Walmart for further comment.


In addition to Walmart, other large stores are also closing locations.

Notably, grocer Piggly Wiggly will close one in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

No specific closing date has yet been given, but the company’s senior director said in an email that “employee disconnects” are expected to begin “during the 14-day period beginning March 18, 2023.”

“This promotion will be permanent and the entire store will be closed.”

To avoid bankruptcy (at least for now), the company sold stock to raise $225 million.

The large drugstore chain Walgreens will close two more locations.

That reportedly includes one in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, on February 22, followed by another in Houston, Texas on Grand Avenue on March 7.

And rival CVS will close the pharmacy section of its store at 400 Massachusetts Avenue NW in Washington DC
