Investigators say a vehicle and a train collided around 6 p.m. in a rural area south of W. 255th St. and east of Highway 169.
The captain at the scene of the accident said part of the ship and vehicle involved in the accident caught fire after the collision. The delegate said both victims were in the vehicle. No one on board was injured. They are working to determine why the vehicle was on the tracks and said it was not malfunctioning.
“It is difficult for anyone any time of year to deal with this. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family involved in this,” said Captain Matt Kelly, Miami County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators believe the victims were from Kansas City and were visiting someone in the vicinity of the crash site. Their identities remained undisclosed as of Thursday night.
